7.14 Status Messages
Status messages can be transmitted whenever the transmitter is keyed on a Multi-Net
channel. Up to eight different messages are pre-programmed such as such as “AT SITE”,
“LEAVING”, “LOADING”, or “OUT SERVCE”. The message that is transmitted is
selected by the Status option button or menu mode Status function (see Sections 4.4 and
4.2).
The status condition is then displayed on the dispatcher’s console along with the
subscriber unit’s unique ID code whenever the transmitter is keyed. The selected status is
always transmitted. If no status condition is to be transmitted, one message may be
programmed “NO STATUS”, for example. The status message number is transmitted and
not the message, so the dispatcher’s console must be programmed using the same number/
message scheme.
7.15 System Access (Busy) Queuing
System Access (Busy) queuing places a special call in a queue if a busy condition exists
when the PTT switch is pressed. Then when the system is no longer busy, the system is
automatically accessed and the call is placed. An available system is determined in the
normal manner by the access priority of the selected system and the current access priority
being transmitted by the repeater.
Busy queuing is enabled or disabled on each Multi-Net system by programming. It is
available with special calls (see Section 7.10) but not standard group calls. If queuing has
been programmed and the busy tone sounds on an access attempt, the queue mode is
entered automatically. The queue mode is not currently indicated (“BUSY” and the
selected ID continue to be alternately displayed).
When the system becomes available, the radio waits a random time and then accesses the
repeater. This random delay minimizes the chance of collisions with other radios in queue.
If an access attempt is unsuccessful, another access is attempted after a random time delay.
This continues until a successful access is completed.
When the access is successful, the user is alerted by the normal Unit call beep or a
Telephone call dial tone. When the access is successfully completed by the radio as
described, the repeater returns dial tone and the selected digits are sent. If Site Search is
active (see Section 7.13.1), the queue status is maintained even if registration on another
site occurs.
