Twisted pair wiring must be used to eliminate interference from other sources. Individual cable-runs
between the extension device and the MDF Connection Terminals is a mandatory requirement (Star-
Wiring technique). The maximum cable run lengths are as follows:

3285m

Power Failure Transfer
In the event of a power fail the analogue exchange lines will be connected directly to the designated
power fail extensions as shown in the table below. The system Executive and Standard Terminal will
not function correctly in the event of a power fail and should not be connected to these extensions.

The power fail telephone must match the line signalling characteristics provided by the carrier. The
optional Executive or Standard Terminal must not be connected to extensions 11, 12, 21 or 23 as it
not suitable for direct connection to exchange lines in power fail mode.
Executive & Standard Terminals
The system can support up to ten Executive Terminals and Standard Terminals combined.
The Executive/Standard Terminal cannot be used on power fail extensions 11 or 12. It is also
recommended that extensions 21 and 23 do not have Terminals connected if the system uses
analogue exchange lines. A terminal will not function in the event of a power failure. Figure 4-3
shows the location of the power fail extensions.
When installing the Executive or Standard Terminal both the speech pair and the signalling pair are
polarity dependent. The speech pair is connected to the normal speech connections for the
extension. The signalling pair is connected to any of the signalling pairs shown in Figure 4-3. Each of
the pins are labelled on the casing under the MDF cover. When the speech wires are correctly wired
then the terminal LED's will flash and it will be possible to make a call. If the signalling wiring is
reversed then the display will show ‘Communication Error’ on the Executive Terminal screen after a
short delay and the LEDs will not function on the Standard Terminal.
After connecting the Executive Terminal or Standard Terminal the extension will automatically
configure itself and the display will show ‘This is extension: xx’ if it correctly connected.
European Telephone RJ11 connection
The European socket is connected as shown in Figure 4-4, below. Note: if the socket is different the
pin references should be used, the socket may use Insulation displacement connectors in place of
screw terminals.
