DS7A - Constant Current Stimulator
'Volts max.' control
This control sets the maximum voltage, available from which the stimulation current is generated. The User
may wish to limit the maximum voltage that could appear on the electrode terminals by setting this control
less than the maximum of 400 Volts. If the 'Volts max.' control is not set high enough, this is indicated by:
'Out of Compliance' indicator
This indicator shows that the Current selected was not supplied for all or some of the pulse duration,
because the Voltage selected was too low for the impedance of the patient electrode circuit.
This can indicate one of two things. Firstly that the electrode is not in proper contact with, or has a high
impedance contact with, the patient OR the Voltage selected is too low for the Current required.
Remember that this is governed by Ohm's Law, that is:-
Current = Voltage / Resistance. [ in Amps, Volts and Ohms ]
Therefore if 100 Volts is selected and the electrode impedance is 2000 ohms the maximum current that can
be supplied is 0.05 Amps (50 mA).
