Connecting to the Network
This section describes how to connect the Category 5 UTP cables to
the DE500 10/100 adapters and the multimode fiber-optic cable to the
DE500-FA adapter.
Connecting UTP Cables
The DE500 10/100 adapters use an on-board transceiver with UTP
cable to connect to the network.
To connect these adapters to the network, use the following procedure:
1.
Attach the UTP cable (
1
, Figure 2–3) to the 8-pin MJ connector
on your adapter.
2.
Attach the connector on the other end of your UTP cable to the
other device.
•
To establish a valid 100 Mb/s connection, connect a 100-ohm UTP
or ScTP Category 5 cable point-to-point, or to a 100BaseTX hub or
repeater.
•
To establish a valid 10 Mb/s connection, connect a 100-ohm UTP
or ScTP Category 3, 4, or 5 cable point-to-point, or to a 10BaseT
hub or repeater.
Refer to the Cabling Requirements section in Appendix B for
further cabling information. Refer to Figure B–1 and Figure B–2
for connector pin assignments.
