Introduction
This chapter describes the DIGITAL Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100
adapter (DE500) and briefly summarizes its features. This chapter
also describes the adapter connectors and LEDs.
The DE500 is a single-slot, variable-height short card with a direct
interface to the 32-bit PCI local bus. Reference to the DE500 adapter
includes all models (-BA, -FA, -AA, and -XA) unless otherwise noted.
For example, the DE500 UTP models (-BA, -AA, and -XA) are referred
to as the DE500 10/100 adapters; the fiber-optic model is referred to
as the DE500-FA.
Table 1–1 describes the adapter models available from Digital
Equipment Corporation.

DE500-XA These 10BaseT or 100BaseTX dual-speed adapters use
a single 8-pin MJ connector for either a 10 Mb/s or a
100 Mb/s twisted-pair IEEE 802.3 Ethernet network
connection.
DE500-FA This 100BaseFX adapter uses a duplex SC connector for
a 100 Mb/s fiber-optic IEEE 802.3 or 802.3u Ethernet
connection.
