6.2  Heat Spreader 

Model EPS-8130-XT  contains a  heat spreader  which serves as both a cooling method and a mounting method f or 
the board. The  heat  spreader is the same size  as the board  and uses a thermal  pad to contact the Ethernet  switch 
IC.  The  I/O  connectors overhang the board and heat  spreader so they can still be accessed . The  heat  spreader is 
intended f or direct mounting to the inner  surf ace of  the system enclosure. Thermal  grease may be applied to the 
junction if  desired. The  heat  spreader enables the  EPS-8130  to operate over the f ull industrial temperature  range 
of  -40 to +85

o

C. 

Custom heat spreaders can  be designed to meet particular  application requirements. Examples include a larger 
size to enable  mounting f rom the interior  or a dif f erent mounting hole pattern.
