3.12 Welding conditions of WB-W350/W400
3-50
3.12.3 To adjust the pulse conditions
Basically, when adjusting the pulse conditions, it is enough to change the following three
parameters.
• Arc characteristic ....... For hardening or softening the condition of the arc.
• EN adjust. .................. For adjusting the amount of wire penetrating into the base metal.
• Wave frequency ......... For adjusting the ripple pitch of the beads shaped like fish scales.
What is the arc characteristic?
The arc characteristic is a parameter used for adjusting the pulse rise time and pulse fall
time internally. When its value is increased, an expansive soft arc is obtained; conversely,
when it is reduced, a concentrated hard arc is obtained. Pulse standup time and puls falling
time are adjusted in the case of AC pulsed.
What is the EN adjust.?
With the AC pulsed welding, input heat to the workpiece can be controlled with the ratio that
is calculated by outputting the EP current (when the torch is positively charged) and EN
current (when the torch is negatively charged) one after the other. As a result, high-quality
welding can be achieved on the workpiece of thin plate or that contains a gap in the joint.
The correlation between the “EN adjust” and welding result is as below.

EN is the period of time that a workpiece and torch respectively carries a positive and
negative charge in this order, while EP inverse.
The EN ratio changes by approx. ±1% against the setting value of EN adjust ±1. The standard
value of EN ratio (value when specifying 0 by the EN adjust) depends on the welding mode
and current setting, and do the max/min. value settable as the EN ratio.
For the aluminum-based AC pulse, if 0 is specified for the EN time, the EN ratio becomes 0%,
the EN period runs out, and the electric current becomes DC. For the iron steel-based AC
pulse, even if -30 is specififed for EN adjust, the EN ratio does not become 0% and the electric
current does not become DC.
IMPORTANT
The EN ratio given above is only a rough measure. It depends on the actual
welding conditions and work environments.
POINT
The average of EN ratio during welding can be checked on the arc monitor.

The EN ratio is the current
ratio (the ratio of area) of EN

expressed by %. It is defined
by the following expression.
