Port Mirroring Commands
The port mirroring commands in the Command Line Interface (CLI) are listed (along with the appropriate parameters)
in the following table.
Command
Parameters
config mirror port
<port> {[add | delete] source ports <portlist> [rx | tx | both]}
enable mirror
disable mirror
show mirror
Each command is listed, in detail, in the following sections.
config mirror port
Purpose
Used to configure a mirror port
−
source port pair on the Switch. Traffic from any source port
to a target port can be mirrored for real-time analysis. A logic analyzer or an RMON probe
can then be attached to study the traffic crossing the source port in a completely obtrusive
manner.
Syntax
config mirror port <port> {[add | delete] source ports <portlist> [rx | tx | both]}
Description
This command allows a range of ports to have all of their traffic also sent to a designated
port, where a network sniffer or other device can monitor the network traffic. In addition,
users can specify that only traffic received by or sent by one or both is mirrored to the Target
port.
Parameters
<port>
−
This specifies the Target port (the port where mirrored packets will be received).
The target port must be operating at the same speed as the source port. The target port and
source port can reside in the same VLAN or different VLANs. The mirrored packets may be
discarded on an overflowed target port.
[add | delete]
– Specifies if the user wishes to add or delete ports to be mirrored that are
specified in the
source ports
parameter.
source ports
– The port or ports being mirrored. This cannot include the Target port.
<portlist>
−
This specifies a port or range of ports that will be mirrored. That is, the range of
ports in which all traffic will be copied and sent to the Target port.
rx
−
Allows the mirroring of only packets received by (flowing into) the port or ports in the port
list.
tx
−
Allows the mirroring of only packets sent to (flowing out of) the port or ports in the port
list.
both
−
Mirrors all the packets received or sent by the port or ports in the port list.
Restrictions
The Target port cannot be listed as a source port.
Only Administrator and Operator-level users can issue this command.
Example usage:
To add the mirroring ports:
DES-3528:admin# config mirror port 1 add source ports 2-5 both
Command: config mirror port 1 add source ports 2-5 both
Success.
DES-3528:admin#
Example usage:
To delete the mirroring ports:
DES-3528:admin# config mirror port 1 delete source port 2-4 both
Command: config mirror port 1 delete source 2-4 both
