3.7.2.2 Configuring USB-Serial device as USB-I2C Master
Steps to configure the USB-SERIAL device as a USB-I2C Master Bridge and GPIO_1 as Input GPIO (One time
configuration) are as below:
1. Navigate to the bin folder from the location given below and launch the USB SERIAL Configuration utility
executable:
i.
Default path for 32-bit operating system: C:\Program Files\Cypress\USB-Serial SDK\1.0\bin\ USB Serial
Configuration Utility.exe
ii.
Default path for 64-bit operating system: C:\Program Files (x86)\Cypress\USB-Serial SDK\1.0\bin\ USB Serial
Configuration Utility.exe
Note:
the USB-Serial SDK gets installed as a prerequisite with CY4502 DVK installer at the default location
“C:\Program Files\Cypress\USB-Serial SDK for 32-bit operating system or location “C:\Program Files
(x86)\Cypress\USB-Serial SDK for 64-bit operating system.
2. Go to Select Target tab. USB-
SERIAL device will be listed in the ‘Select Device’ drop down list. Click Connect.
3. Navigate to SCB tab. Choose Mode as
“I2C” and Protocol as “Vendor”.

Note:
If the USB-SERIAL device is already configured as USB-I2C Master, the Mode and Protocol will be listed
as “I2C” and “Vendor” respectively. Then the steps 4 to 9 can be skipped.
5. Click Configure. Set frequency as 400000Hz and Mode as Master. Click OK.
6. Click Configure button located adjacent to Notification LED option. Make sure all notification LEDs are selected as
‘None’. Hit OK.

Go to Cap Sense/BCD/GPIO tab and select ‘Unused GPIO’s drive mode’ option.
8. Configure GPIO 01 as Input in the drop down list and click OK.
9. Click Program button located at the bottom of the utility.

Go to Device Menu and select ‘Reset Device’. The USB-SERIAL device will re-enumerate and come up with the
selected configuration. You may now exit the utility.
11. After successful configuration of the USB-SERIAL device, go to Step 4 of section
