4. GPS NMEA 0183 Messages
The internal GPS receiver of the GBX supports the output of a variety of
NMEA data messages. This chapter presents the commands used to
activate or deactivate the various messages, and defines the message
contents.
4.1 Description of NMEA 0183
NMEA 0183 is a communications standard established by the marine
industry. It has found use in a variety of electronic devices, including
GPS and beacon receivers.
The National Marine Electronics Association publishes updates to the
NMEA 0183 message standard. The latest NMEA 0183 standard is

4.2 NMEA Message Elements
NMEA 0183 messages have a common structure, consisting of a
message header, data fields, and carriage return/line feed identifiers.
Example:
$GPYYY,xxx,xxx,xxx…<CR><LF>
