Procedure
1.
Disconnect engine electrical power and turn the Ignition Switch to the OFF position.
2.
Refer to Figure 10-12; install a new cylinder base packing (47) lubricated with clean
50-weight aviation engine oil. (Verify the cylinder base packing is free of cracks and
deformities).

3.
Thoroughly clean the cylinder deck and stud threads and holes with Stoddard solvent;
with a narrow brush to clean stud thread holes.
4.
Lubricate cylinder through bolt and deck stud threads with clean 50 weight aviation
engine oil.
5.
Install a conforming piston pin (53) with new piston rings (48 through 50) partially in
the cylinder bore.
6.
When installing the connecting rod, use care not to drop the connecting rod on the
cylinder deck to avoid damaging the cylinder. Carefully rotate the crankshaft placing
the connecting rod of the cylinder being installed in the outer most position. Remove
the packing that was installed for connecting rod support.
7.
Back the piston pin (52) out far enough to allow the piston (53) to be installed on the
connecting rod. Place the cylinder and piston (53) on the connecting rod.
8.
Line the piston up with the connecting rod and slide the piston pin (52) into the
connecting rod.
9.
Using a ring compressor, compress the fourth piston ring and push the cylinder until
the fourth piston ring is positioned inside the cylinder barrel.
