Connection to a USB device
☞
The software enclosed has to be installed on every PC that is to have access to the
USB device connected to the network adapter.
Due to the principle used, only one computer at a time can use the USB device connected to the
network adapter. The network adapter works similarly, as if the USB device was connected
directly to the PC.
If another user wants access to the USB device, select the option „Request Disconnect Device“
by right-clicking on the USB device in the software. After a security check, the request is sent to
the other computer that is connected to the USB device.
A system message „..... has requested you disconnect. Would you like to disconnect“ appears
on the computer currently connected to the USB device. If
When „OK“ is clicked, the present connection to the network adapter is disconnected, the other
user can then connect to the USB device connected to the network adapter.
By clicking on „Cancel“, the user who sent the request, receives a message that the device is still in
use.
Miscellaneous
☞
Observe the (English) instruction manual on the manufacturer’s CD. (PDF format).
To view the file, you need „Acrobat Reader“ which you can download free of charge
at www.adobe.com.
• Suitable USB devices
The network adapter allows the connection and operation of any USB device. Depending on
the USB driver, problems may occur if the USB driver does not require a direct USB
connection.
The software provided emulates a direct connection; i.e. for most drivers there is no difference,
whether the USB device is directly connected to the computer or operated via the network
adapter.
Due to the multitude of USB devices, we cannot guarantee that every USB device is suitable
for connection to the network adapter! In which case, the USB device needs to be connected,
as usual, directly to a USB connection on the computer and not to the network adapter.
• Power supply for the external drive
The delivered wall plug transformer has an output current of 2A, so any devices with a high
power consumption should also work well.
• Software
The software provided has to be installed on every computer that is to access the USB device
on the network adapter.
☞
Please note: Simultaneous access of e.g. two or more computers to the USB device
(e.g. USB hard disk) connected to the network adapter is not possible. First dis-
connect the existing connection, to allow another computer to access the USB
device; see Section „Connection to the USB device“.
• Password
Access to the connected USB device can be safeguarded by a password.
If you forget the password, the network adaptor can be reset to the default settings by using
the „RESET“ button, see below.
• Restoring the default settings
The network adapter can be reset to the default setting as follows:
Press the countersunk „RESET“ button e.g. with a toothpick for about 10 seconds. Thereafter,
the network adaptor is reset to the default settings; you can release the „RESET“ button. The
network adapter requires up to 30 seconds to restart.
Handling
Ꮨ
Only to be used in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet,
danger of a fatal electric shock!
Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to a
warm one. The condensation that forms might destroy your unit.
Allow the device to reach room temperature before switching it on. This may take
several hours. Only then can the transformer be plugged into the mains and the
router put into operation.
Ensure that the insulation for the entire product is neither damaged nor destroyed.
The housing must not be opened! Any maintenance or repair work must only be
carried out by authorised personnel.
Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, DO NOT connect the product to the mains supply! This
presents a danger to life!
It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device does not operate any longer and
- the unit was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.
If the product is not to be used for a while, unplug the wall plug transformer. Bear in
mind that the connection between the network adapter and the USB device
connected to it will no longer be possible.
Avoid the following unfavourable environmental conditions at the installation location
and during transportation:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold or heat
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found close to machinery or loudspeakers
When setting up the product, ensure that the cables are neither bent nor squeezed.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the
household waste!
Please dispose of the device when it is no longer of use, according to the current
statutory requirements.
