Configuring the SAN Integrated Switch
3–11
Saving and Restoring the Switch Element
Configuration Settings
Save your switch element configuration settings using the
configUpload
Telnet command
for a switch element failure emergency. In order to restore your saved configuration
settings, use the
configDownload
Telnet command.
When replacing an old switch element with a new one, a
configUpload
should be taken from
the old switch element to retain the configuration and parameter settings. Then, download
information to the new switch element. Before installing the new switch element, clear the
zoning information from the new switch to ensure that a zoning mismatch does not occur.
Do this by invoking the
cfgClear
Telnet command on the new switch element, or by
inserting the word “clear” into the configuration file immediately before the zoning lines.
Saving Switch Element Configurations to a Host File
The
configUpload
Telnet command saves the switch element configuration to a host file.
The upload process uses either File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or the Remote Shell Daemon
(RSHD) protocol (TCP service 514). Both of these services are available for UNIX and
Microsoft Windows hosts.
On Windows NT, the FTP server may have to be installed from the distribution media and
enabled. Alternatively, for Windows NT or Windows 9x, several freeware and shareware
FTP servers are available.
An FTP server must be installed and running when performing the
configUpload
command
on a Windows NT or Windows 2000 system. If you do not have a Microsoft Windows NT
or Windows 2000 FTP service on your system, you need to install it.
