Inserting Tape Cartridges
into DLT Tape Drives
To insert tape cartridges into DLT tape drives, make sure you:
■
Insert a bar code label on each tape cartridge
■
Set the write-protect switch as desired
■
Place tape cartridges in the fixed storage bins
CAUTION:
Handle tape cartridges with care. Do not drop or bang them, or place them
near sources of electromagnetic interference. Rough handling can displace the tape
leader, making the cartridge unusable and potentially hazardous to the tape drives.
Labeling Tape Cartridges
Attaching a bar code label to each tape cartridge enables the library to identify the
cartridge quickly, thereby speeding up inventory time.
Place the label in the slide-in slot (

Figure 2-7) on the front of the tape cartridge.

NOTE:
Only use bar code labels that have been designed for Compaq tape cartridges. Do not
adhere labels to a tape cartridge anywhere except the slide-in slot.
Use 7-character barcode labels (ABC123S) with SDLT media only. The “S” identifies the tape as
SDLT media.
