7.20 Using The Data Interface Unit
The optional Data Interface Unit (DIU) provides connections for your
LCD speakerphone and an industry-standand telephone (IST) device
such as a non-proprietary telephone, FAX machine, data modem,
cordless telephone, or answering machine. You can then switch
between your multiline telephone and the IST device.
The main purpose of the DIU is to provide IST capability to a digital
station port like those provided by your telephone system.
When you have a DIU assigned to your station multiline telephone,
your telephone will have a preprogrammed DATA button. The button’s
LED provides you with the following visual feedback on the operating
status of the DIU.

On (green) IST device selected but not active
On (red) IST device busy
Flashing (red) IST device ringing

To select the LCD speakerphone,
— press the DATA button. If a call is in progress on the IST
device, it transfers to the LCD speakerphone if the
speakerphone is off-hook or in speakerphone mode. The call
disconnects if the LCD speakerphone is on-hook.

To select the IST device,
— press the DATA button. If a call is in progress on the LCD
speakerphone, it transfers to the IST device if that device is
off-hook. The call drops If the IST device is on-hook. You can
still receive visual messages via the speakerphone’s LEDs and
LCD display while the voice path is routed to the IST device.
