Installation Prerequisites

Interface Card Power Requirements

Before installing new cards, check the power requirements of the existing system and the new
card(s) to avoid exceeding the power budget. To calculate the power requirements of an existing
system, add the values for each card in the chassis; the sum is the power requirement. To determine
the available power budget, subtract that sum from 300 watts (W) (260W for chassis shipped before
10/1/91); the result is the power budget available for new interface cards. For example, to determine
if you can install two CSC-C2CTRs in an AGS+ that already contains two CSC-MCIs and a
CSC-C2MEC, determine the power requirements of the existing system, then subtract that sum
from 300. Compare the result to the total power requirement of the two new cards. If the result is
greater than the power requirement for the new cards, you can install the new cards without
exceeding the power budget. The following shows a sample calculation to determine whether two
new CSC-CTRs can be added to an AGS+ that already contains several other interface cards. (All
calculations are in watts [W].)

1. Add 4W for each external Ethernet transceiver.
