Setting up the System Log on the XLR 550
This option sets up the System Log reporting data, including whether the XLR 550 sends out System Log
information or not, the IP address of the Log Server, the facility level and the severity level of the alarm
to be send out.
Enable -
Enable SNMP traps.

Disable SNMP traps.
Server IP

Facility Level
– 7 local levels local0 to Local 7
The XLR 550 also supports "facilities" which loosely relate to system processes, a way of categorizing
messages. When a remote device sends a message to a syslog server it includes one of the standard
facility values (along with a severity level). Some of the common facilities are:
auth
- authentication (login) messages
cron
- messages from the memory-resident scheduler
daemon
- messages from resident daemons
kern
- kernel messages
lpr
- printer messages (used by JetDirect cards)
- messages from Sendmail
user
- messages from user-initiated processes/apps
local0
-
local7
- user-defined (see below)
syslog
- messages from the syslog process itself (NB

.local7. You can specify different severity levels for different facilities so you can, for
example, log all kernel messages, or only Emergency Messages
Severity level
The severity level dictates the severity level of the event being sent.
0 – Emergency
1 – Alert
2 – Critical
3 – Error
4 – Warning
5 – Notice
6 – Information
7 – Debug
