Processor Rack-to-Console Control Connections
The control connections between the SL 9000 J Processor Rack and Console are made
using 10m 50-way MDR-to-MDR Cables (SSL Part No. 66C95003). Longer lengths up
to the maximum of 25m can be supplied at extra cost, and should be specified at the
time of order. A minimum of 11 of these cables are supplied; the actual quantity
required depends upon the number of console channels. The required cabling for the
maximum of 120 channels is shown opposite.
All control cabling from the console to the processor rack is fed through the apertures
on the left-hand side of the rack rear panel, and through the rack, and connects to the
MDR sockets on the front of the rack cards (see opposite). To access these cards, the
front of the rack must be opened.
The rightmost card (when looking from the front of the rack) is the Lights and
Switches Card. Immediately to the left of this card is Fader Card 1. On consoles with
more than 56 channels a second Fader Card will be fitted immediately to the left of
Fader Card 1, as shown opposite.
• Before installing any cabling, first check the following link settings on the fader
card (or cards). (If only one fader card is fitted, ensure that the link settings
correspond to those for Fader Card 1 below):-

• Install the cabling from the fader card (or cards), ensuring that the bottom left
socket of Fader Card 1 is connected to the ANALOGUE CEN SEC socket on the
console connector panel, as shown opposite.
• The remaining number of cables from the fader card(s) is equal to the number of
console 8-channel bays. For example, a 64-channel console (8 bays) requires 8
additional cables. Start by installing the cable that connects to the 1-8 socket on the
console connector panel, then 9-16, 17-24, 25-32, and so on until all of the required
cables have been fitted. Ensure that each cable goes to the correct fader card
connector, as shown opposite.
• Install the Lights and Switches Card cabling, ensuring that the bottom left socket on
the card is connected to the COMPUTER CONTROL socket on the console
connector panel, and that the top right socket is connected to the
INTERRUPT/ENABLE
socket, as shown opposite.
• The remaining number of cables for the Lights and Switches Card cabling is equal
to the number of console 8-channel bays divided by 3, plus an additional cable if
the number of bays is not exactly divisible by 3. For example, a 64-channel console
(8 bays) requires 3 more cables (8 ÷ 3 = 2.667, thus 2 + 1 cables are required). First
install the cable that connects to the 1-24 socket on the console connector panel,
then 25-48, and so on until all of the cables have been fitted. Ensure that each cable
goes to the correct Lights and Switches Card connector, as shown opposite.
