Addendum I Communications 

The  AR  are  standalone  units  and  do  not  require  a  PC,  nor  Internet,  nor  telephone 
connection to operate. AR’s have two active communication ports to allow a PC (laptop 
or  desktop)  to send/  receive  formatted text  files to  be stored  in  the  PC.  One  port  is a 
telephone  modem  connection  and  the  other  is  a  serial  RS232  port.  The  phone  port 
requires  that  the  AR  to  be  connected  to  an  analog  telephone  line  and  the  serial  port 
connect  via  short  cable  (e.g.,  15  ft.)  to  the  PC  (via  a  modem  dongle).  Order  on 
510AR.com. 

 

PC’s no longer include a serial or modem port. They have USB ports that use modular 
USB  adapters  to  interface  via  phone  modem  or  RS232  serial  cable.  The  PHONE  or 
DIRECT UTILITY program is provided on a USB dongle (flash drive). You can connect 
via the removable dongle,
