5.16.2 Auger Flight Installation and Adjustments - Model 5000 EX
Whenever the flights are replaced it is important to ensure they are installed and adjusted correctly in
order to maintain proper drive dog mating and prevent inadvertent uncoupling. Follow the procedure
listed below.
1. Install the centre flight first. Because there is no adjustment on this flight, the upper and lower flights
must be adjusted to match the centre flight. The face of the lower drive dog and the outer edge of the
flange on the Centre Tube should be very close to flush as shown in Fig. 44. Measure the distance
between the outer edge of the flange and the face of the cast drive dog. If this distance is less than
1/16”, no special adjustments on the upper and lower flights will be required.
2. Install the lower flight into the lower tube. Make sure the shoulder on the lower stub is against the
bearing race. Measure the distance between the face of the flange and the end of the flight core. If the
measurement on the centre flight taken in step 1 was 1/16” or less, the lower flight must be shimmed so
the end of the flight core is 1/8” above the level of the flange. See Fig. 44. The shims must be placed
between the lower bearing race and the shoulder on the flight stub. If the measurement on the centre
flight taken in step 1 was more than 1/16”, the lower flight must be shimmed to have as little gap as
possible between the end of the lower flight core and the face of the cast drive dog.
3. Finally, install the upper flight using no machinery bushings at the upper end and leaving off the grain
deflector and discharge spout for now. Do not tighten the lock collar on the upper bearing at this time.
If the measurement on the centre flight taken in step 1 was 1/16” or less, the upper flight must be
1/8” above flange
Place Shims between the
bearing and the shoulder of
