5.7 Fan Bearing Box
The Fan Bearing Box is situated on the front of the
fan housing and is used to support the Fan Rotor.
The bearings in this box are run in an oil bath of
synthetic oil.
To check the oil level in the box, remove the Oil
Level plug. Use a piece of wire as a dipstick.
The oil level is full when it is 1/2”
below the oil level hole.
Use only 75W90 Synthetic Oil
1. Occasionally these bearings should be inspected
for rough spots, seal failures and heat after
running for a period of time. If any of these
conditions are present, the Bearing Box should
be replaced.
2. The Bearing Box should be replaced if any noise
is heard coming from the fan.
3. Waiting until the bearings fail completely will
result in damage to your machine and possibly
rotor failure.
4. If the Bearing Box requires replacement, contact
your dealer. The special assembly tolerances
should be set by a trained service representative.
Assembly without regard to these tolerances
could result in damage to the fan rotor and
housing failure. Rotor failure will result in a very
dangerous situation for the operator and
bystanders. This could result in serious injury
or death.
To Test for an Air Leak through the
Fan Side Seal
1. Remove the breather and put a 3/8" MPT x
1/4" hose barb brass fitting in. Attach a 1/4”
clear hose to the barb and place the other end
into a water bottle. Once the hose is secure
and away from any moving parts, run the fan at
full speed.
2. Observe the water bottle for air bubbles. At
the start, the bubbles should be coming out about
every second (this is related to the oil expanding
as the temperature is increasing).
3. After about 5 minutes, the bubble frequency
should begin to slow down.
4. At 10 minutes, remove the hose from the water
to allow the box to go to atmospheric pressure,
and then place the hose back into the water. At
this point the bubbles should have stopped and
all you should see is a small fluctuation of the
water column in the hose.
5. If you still see bubbles coming from the tube at
a consistent rate after 15 minutes, it is likely that
there is air being forced into the box through the
fan side seal.
6. If an air leak is suspected, remove the drain plug
and check the oil for contamination.
Uncontaminated oil should have an orange
colour.
