MPEG-4 Further development of MPEG-2, designed for transmission
of audiovisual data at very low transfer rates (for example
via the Internet).
Multicasting Multiple use of a transmitter data stream by multiplication of
the data stream in the network nodes (switches), and only
where the data is required to save bandwidth in the network.
These connections are managed using IGMP.
Net mask A mask that explains which part of an IP address is the
network address and which part comprises the host
address. It is usually written in dotted decimal notation with
full stops separating the bytes, for example
"255.255.255.192".
