Brief explanations of some of the terms and abbreviations
found in this user guide are given below.
10/100 Base-T
IEEE 802.3 specification for 10 or 100 MBit/s Ethernet
802.1x
The IEEE standard, 802.1x, provides a general method of
access control and authorization for IEEE 802-based net-
works. An authenticator provides authentication by access-
ing an authentication server (see RADIUS server) to check
connection requests, and grants or refuses access to the
available services (LAN, VLAN, WLAN).
ARP
Address Resolution Protocol: a protocol for mapping MAC
and IP addresses
Baud
Unit of measure for the speed of data transmission
Bit/s
Bits per second, the actual data rate
CIF
Common Intermediate Format,
video format with 352 x 288/240 pixels
DNS
Domain Name Service
DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol allows a network
device to receive a dynamically allocated IP address and
other network parameters from a server in a network.
FTP
File Transfer Protocol
Full duplex
Simultaneous data transmission in both directions (sending
