Information on suitable audio devices/mobile
phones is available from your BMW Service.
Audio files
The common audio files, e.g. MP3, WMA, WAV
(PCM) and AAC as well as playlists in the M3U
format can be played.
Connecting via USB audio interface
Lift up the centre armrest.
1 AUX-IN port for audio playback:

Apple iPod/iPhone
To connect, use the special cable adapter for
the Apple iPod/iPhone that is available from
your Service Centre. The cable adapter is
required for a fully functional connection.
Connect the Apple iPod/iPhone via cable

and USB interface

The menu structure of the Apple iPod/iPhone is
supported by the USB audio interface.
USB device
Connect using a flexible adapter cable.
This protects the USB interface and your
USB device against mechanical damage. <

device to connection

After you connect for the first time, the informa-
tion on all tracks (e.g. artist, music genre,) as
well as the playlists of the USB device are trans-
ferred to the vehicle. This operation can take
some time. How long it takes depends on the
USB device and the number of tracks.
During transfer, the tracks can be called up via
the file directory.
The information from up to four USB devices
can be stored in the vehicle, for a total of approx.
16,000 tracks.
If a fifth device is connected or if more than
16,000 tracks are stored, the information on
existing tracks is deleted if applicable.
Tracks with integrated Digital Rights
Management (DRM) cannot be played.

Starting audio playback
If the audio device has a device name, this is
displayed if applicable.
1. "CD/Multimedia"
2. "External devices"
3. Select the symbol.
The name of the audio device is displayed if
applicable.
Playback starts with the first track. When an
Apple iPhone is connected via the snap-in
adapter and an audio device is connected
simultaneously at the AUX-IN port, the audio
signal of the AUX-IN port is output.
Information on the track
If information is stored for a track, this is dis-
played automatically:
> Artist
> Album title
> Number of tracks
> File name of the track
