Section D: Configuring the SG210 Using Director Registration
This section describes how to configure the SG210 using the Director Registration feature.
Director Registration is a process that provides appliance authentication and allows Blue Coat devices to
verify each other without exchanging passwords over the network. Director registration establishes a
secure administrative session with the SG210 and authenticates the SG appliance to the Director as an SSL
client. Upon authentication, it allows you to control access to the SG210 through the Director. To complete
the registration process, both the SG210 and the Director need to authenticate each other.
If you have Internet connectivity, an appliance certificate is automatically fetched by the SG210. If the
Internet connection is delayed or if you do not have Internet access, you might have to manually initiate
the process of obtaining an appliance certificate. For details on manually obtaining an appliance certificate
refer to the
Blue Coat ProxySG Configuration and Management Guide Suite (Chapter 6: Authenticating a
ProxySG in Volume 5: Advanced Networking).
If the SG appliance does not have an appliance certificate, you must configure a registration password on
the Director and enter the same password when configuring the SG appliance to confirm their identities
before exchanging public keys. For details on setting a registration password, refer to

Note: The Director Registration feature is only supported on the Linux platform 510 Director.
Important: Before using Director Registration in the SG210 set up console, log in to Director and
obtain its appliance certificate. The Director must have an appliance certificate and it
must be configured properly so that it can receive the registration request from the
SG210.
