RACKMOUNT SERVSWITCH™ BRAND CAT5 KVM EXTENDER LOCAL HUBS
4.2 The Cables You’ll Need
The basic application for the Rackmount Extender is to get greater distance
between rackmounted CPUs and user stations consisting (depending on what types
of Local Hubs and Remotes you’re using) of VGA monitors, PS/2 keyboards, PS/2
mice, touchscreens or other RS-232 serial devices, and/or audio devices. Between
your Rackmount Extender Local Hub and Remote packages, you should have
received everything you’ll need for this kind of application except for your serial,
audio, CAT5, and CPU KVM-extension cables, which you’ll have to order
separately. For this kind of application, read
Sections 4.2.1
,
4.2.3
, and
4.2.5
carefully, then proceed with
Chapter 5
.
If you are using the Rackmount Extender to get greater distance between a
ServSwitch family KVM switch and either a CPU, a user station, or a compatible
switch, you might need to order additional non-included cabling. Read the
relevant sections from
Section 4.2.1
through
Section 4.2.5
.
NOTE
When you order any cable listed in this section, you will be asked to
specify the length you want. Some cables might be available in a few
stock lengths only.
If you are using any equipment with PC/AT style connectors, you might also need
some combination of these adapters:
• To attach a CPU or KVM switch with a 5-pin DIN female keyboard connector
to a CPU port on a Local Hub: A keyboard-port adapter such as product code
FA211.
•
All except the KVM/Serial/Audio models:
To attach a CPU or KVM switch with an
RS-232 serial DB9 male mouse connector to the Local Hub: A mouse-port
adapter such as product code AC244A. (Avoid attaching a serial mouse or a
CPU’s serial mouse port to a serial connector on a KVM/Serial Extender Local
Hub or Remote. If you really need to use an industrial trackball or some other
device that functions like a serial mouse, see
Appendix C
.)
•
KVM/Serial Local Hubs only:
To attach a CPU or KVM switch with a DB25 male
serial-port connector to the Local Hub: A serial-port adapter such as product
code FA521A.
• To attach a keyboard or KVM switch with a 5-pin DIN male keyboard connector
to a Remote or to a user-port keyboard connector on a Dual-Access Local Hub:
A keyboard adapter such as product code FA212.
