FiberAlert minimizes the problems associated with the loss of one strand of fiber. Normally
when a single strand of fiber is lost, the transmitting side of the connection is unaware that
there is a fault.

Now the Managed Media Converter is configured to pass only tagged data between the
OPTICS (or UPLINK) and DATA ports. All untagged data is considered management traffic
and passes from the OPTICS (or UPLINK) port to the EXT MGMT port.
