Putting the Detector into Storage
Putting the Detector into Storage
If the detector is to be stored or not used for an extended period of
time, it is recommended to follow the procedure outlined below:
1 Disconnect the Isolera splitter from the detector.
2 Put the detector into RUN mode.
3 Set the evaporator and nebulizer temperatures to 50 °C and the
gas flow to 2.8 SLM.
4 Fill the syringe supplied with the splitter with acetone (or another
suitable cleaning solution).
5 Inject the acetone into the eluent inlet at the front of the detector,
using the injection tube supplied with the splitter.
6 Repeat step 4 through 5 two times, i.e. inject a total of 30 mL.
7 Allow the detector to cool to ambient temperature in STANDBY
mode with the gas supply still connected.
8 Tip the detector forwards to try and empty the solvent within the
nebulization chamber through the front waste tube (i.e. into the
waste container).
9 Pour 10 – 20 mL of acetone into the rear exhaust tube to flush out
the internal solvent trap, collecting any overflow of acetone at the
solvent waste outlet at the front.
10 Repeat step 8 to drain the acetone.
11 Remove and empty the solvent waste container.
12 Cover the waste tube with tissue paper to collect any acetone
residue in the next step.
13 Using the gas supply, blow nitrogen gas through the exhaust to
evaporate any remaining acetone in the solvent trap.
14 Plug the exhaust, waste tube and eluent inlet with the plastic caps
provided.
