SWINGING KEEL SYSTEM

Swinging keel system on First 18 is very simple and consist of four main components:

stainless steel keel winch

Dyneema keel rope (1,5 m, 10 mm rope connecting the winch and the keel, with durable 32-
braided cover)

redirection block at the mast support

the keel.

Keel winch has two operating modes, controlled by a clutch on the keel-winch:

Locked mode - used almost all of the time:

when the keel is in lowered, sailing position,

when the keel is resting on the trailer,

when you are lifting the keel.

In locked mode, the clutched is pushed forward and is blocking the winch.

Unlocked mode

–

ONLY used when you are lowering the keel.

Warning: Unlocked mode represents danger during operation! Hold the handle firmly at all
times. If the handle slips from your hand with the clutch in unlocked position, it will unwind
rapidly and can seriously hurt your palm!

In unlocked mode, the clutched is pushed backwards and the winch is free to unwind.
