5.1.C - Switching on/off of the log splitter with premium graded fuel engine (VS S9 B&S)
Set the switch (A on
fi
g.8a, page 4) on the right of the motor to “ON”.
•
Switching on: Turn the throttle control knob (C on
fi
g.8b, page 4) to “CHOKE” if the engine is cold or to “RUN” if the engine is still warm.
•
Move the accelerator knob (D on
fi
g.8c, page 4) completely to the left (tortoise).
• Grasp the engine start-up knob (B in
fi
g.8a) and holding it tightly pull it
fi
rmly. Repeat this operation until the engine starts. During this phase, be
very careful not to slip or cause injuries or distortions. Once the engine is running, the telescopic mast moves to the fully open position.
•
Slowly move the accelerator knob (D on
fi
g.8c) to the right (hare).
•
After a few minutes from cold starting, move the throttle control knob (C on
fi
g.8b) from “CHOKE” to “RUN”.
•
Use the log splitter as explained in par. 5.2.
•
If you are leaving the log splitter unattended or if you have
fi
nished working, switch off the log splitter using the switch A on
fi
g.8a.
WARNING
When working and after switching off the log splitter, never touch any part of the engine as this could cause burns. After
switching off the machine, wait until the engine has cooled before performing any operation.
Refer to the attached manual for any other information regarding the BRIGGS & STRATTON engine.
5.2 - How to use log splitter
•
Place the log on the work surface (6 in
fi
g.1, page 2) making sure it is centered under the wedge. The two faces of the log must be parallel to each
other and to the work surface to guarantee safe operation.
• Working in the mandatory position only (15 in
fi
g.1 page 2), activate both the levers downwards (vertical position - B in
fi
g.5, page 3) or ahead
(horizontal position - B in
fi
g.10, page 4): the wedge will start to cut into the log.
•
Once splitted the log, the pieces will not fall down, because they will be kept by the side arms (5 in
fi
g.1, page 2).
•
If the log does not split quickly or if the wedge stops, do not keep the machine under force. It is advisable to bring the wedge to the upper position
and to make another attempt after rotating the log.
•
Repeat the operation with the pieces obtained so as to split the log into several parts.
IN ORDER TO SPLIT SHORT LOGS IT'S NECESSARY TO
USE THE MOVABLE TABLE (FIG.13, PAGE 5)
•
In order to let the wedge return to the upper position, ready for a new cycle, push both levers upward until the clamp. The two levers will stay in this
position. At the end of the stroke, the stopping device will automatically bring them back to the neutral position.
Note: If you release also only one of the two control levers, the wedge will stop in the reached position.

USE OF THE MACHINE
5.3 - Use of the movable table (Optional)
The log splitter can be equipped, under request, with an optional movable table (
fi
g.13, page 5) that allows to split shorter logs.
The movable table (A in
fi
g.13) must be positioned on the work surface and locked with the security pin (B in
fi
g.13) paying attention to insert it completely
and
fi
xing it with the ‘R’ shaped security pin.
If the movable table is to be used, the wedge must do only the necessary stroke to arrive to the table without damaging it.
WARNING
Never operate the machine if the dowel is not fully inserted or if it is not locked with the ‘R’ shaped security pin.
5.4 - Assembly and use of the 4-way wedge (Optional)
The log splitter can be equipped, under request, with an optional 4-way wedge to split logs into four pieces with a single stroke.
The 4-way wedge (1 in
fi
g.15a, page 5) must be assembled directly on the standard 2-way wedge (2 in
fi
g.15a).
When the wedge is in position, insert the dowel (3 in
fi
g.15b) into the corresponding hole (4) and into the hole on the 2-way wedge (5) in order to secure it.
Fix the dowel with the "R" shaped security pin (
fi
g.15c).
This 4-way wedge is used in the same way as the 2-way wedge taking care, however, not to split very hard wood or wood with a large number of knots
as the use of 2 wedges instead of 1 causes greater stress on the wedge.
WARNING
Never use the 4-way wedge if it has not been secured into position with the dowel supplied, as this could prove very dange-
rous for both the operator and the machine.
