23647 Wall Element Gear “Car”

My underlying thought was to design a toy which would demonstrate mechanical movement, and at the same time make this
movement the object of the game. The idea was to include as many different movements as possible, in order to give our
children a general overall impression of mechanical processes. Thus during the development phase the wall element gear “Car”
took shape.

The Gear “Car” wall element consists of cogwheels of different sizes and colours and wooden discs. These are driven and ac-
tivated by a crank handle. The individual elements are interconnected by elastic bands or the teeth of the cogwheels. When
the handle is turned all the elements engage and drive the car at the top. A perspex pane protects small children’s hands from
the drive mechanism.

(which is already fixed to a cogwheel) is directly transmitted
to the large pink cogwheel

A small, wooden orange disc fixed to the small blue cogwheel
sets in motion an elastic band which is vertically connected to
another orange disc

. This in turn drives a horizontal elastic
band which sets a third orange disc

in motion.
An irregular green ‘wavy disc’

is attached to the pink cog-
wheel. The rotation of the cogwheel also turns the wavy disc.
The contour pin

, which is fixed to the car, rests on the
wavy disc and transmits an irregular up-and-down movement to
the car. The wheels of the car rest on the horizontally moving
elastic band and are driven by its motion.
