22440 Papilio
In order to be sure their offspring are being well cared for, butterflies lay their eggs mostly on the
leaves of their “favourite plants”. In the midst of a splendid flower meadow, 4 small caterpillars go
on a big journey, so that they will later become beautiful butterflies. They hop from flower to flower,
all in a great variety of colours, until they finally arrive at the prettiest flower in the meadow. Help
your caterpillar to reach the big flower as quickly as possible.
Brief Game instructions
Game preparation
The game is started at the leaf. The five dice decide how far each caterpillar can move. The colours
indicated on the dice must agree with the flower colours on the way. To arrive at the large flower,
the correct pair of wings must now be found – and then the small caterpillar transforms into a
beautiful butterfly. Now the butterfly can make the return flight. Which butterfly will make it back to
the big leaf in first place?
First all 15 floral chips are covered and jumbled up, with the flower side underneath. Then you set
a path in the middle of the table and turn it round, so that the flowers are showing their upper
sides. At the end of it, you place the large leaf as a starting point and at the other end you place the
yellow flower pistil. Lay the flower leaves around the flower pistil (butterfly wings), with the printed
side facing downwards. Now each player takes one caterpillar each and sets it on the large leaf. The
player with the most colourful clothes starts the game. The game is played in a clockwise direction.

Game
The first player rolls all five dice. Now they look at how far the caterpillar can crawl. For a better
overview, we recommend setting the dice at the relevant flower. But be careful! The caterpillar only
crawls from flower to flower and cannot leave out any colours. That means for each flower that lies
directly before your caterpillar and whose colour is rolled, then you can move.
Jumble up and cover
the flower chips.
Make the path.
- Turn over the flowe chips
- Leaf as starting point
- Flower pistil as end point
- Flower petals: lay the butterfly wings
and so they are concealed
- Bring caterpillars to starting
position
- Have the dice ready
