Introduction to Protocols and Routing
117237-E Rev.00
1-41
In NauticaRS5.5R, the private address is usually the address of
the path to the local network (ETH/LAN01). The public address
is created by the administrator, and this is done in one of two
ways:
1.
A numbered link is created to a remote router, allowing a
second address on the path.
2.
Network Address Translation (NAT) provides a single public
address from an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
The IP addresses at either end of the tunnel must be known for
IPSec to operate. This precludes the use of IPSec on dial up links
to an ISP where the IP address is dynamically allocated.
If this functionality is required by the user, it is recommended that
NAT be used with the IPSec client running on the user’s PC.
