8 Operation
8.1 General
It is the responsibility of the installer to instruct the user in the day to day operation of the boiler and controls and to hand over the completed Benchmark Checklist at the
back of this manual.
1.
Set the central heating and hot water temperatures to the requirements of the user. Instruct the user in the operation of the boiler and system.
2.
The temperature on the boiler rotary knob must be set to a higher temperature than the cylinder thermostat to achieve the required hot water demand.
3.
Instruct the user in the operation of the boiler and system controls.
4.
Demonstrate to the user the action required if a gas leak occurs or is suspected. Show them how to turn off the gas supply at the meter control, and advise them not to
operate electric light or power switched, and to ventilate the property.
5.
Show the user the location of the system control isolation switch, and demonstrate its operation.
6.
Advise the user that they may observe a plume of vapour from the flue terminal, and that it is part of the normal operation of the boiler.
7.
When installed on a sealed system the method of repressurising the primary system should be demonstrated.
8.
8.2 Start-up
Switch on the boiler at the fused spur unit and ensure that the time control is in the on position and any other controls (i.e. room thermostat) are calling for heat.
1.
The boiler will begin it start sequence.
2.
The orange LED will flash at EVERY heating demand. The number of flashes will correspond with the output of the boiler e.g. 5 orange flashes = 25kW. This is normal and
does not indicate a fault condition.
3.
8.3 Shutdown
If the CH system is shut down for remedial work requiring either the electrical power to be switched off or the gas supply to be turned off then any frost protection present
will be inactive.
1.
Switching off the boilers power supply or turning off the gas supply will disable any frost protection that has been incorporated into the control system.
2.

8.4 Use of the Control Panel
See
Section 4.4
Control Panel Description
8.5 Frost Protection
To prevent radiators and pipework from freezing in areas where there is a risk of frost (e.g. a garage or storage room), a frost thermostat should be connected to the control
system.
1.
The following arrangement is recommended:- Utilise a room frost thermostat in conjunction with a pipe thermostat.
The pipe thermostat should be located on the primary return close to the boiler.

10 Maintenance
10.1 General
WARNING
When changing components ensure that both the gas and electrical supplies to the boiler are isolated before any work is started.
When the component has been changed recommission the boiler as described in
Section 7.
The Case Front Panel MUST seal effectively against the boiler side panels.
For reasons of safety and economy, it is recommended that the boiler is serviced annually. Servicing must be performed by a competent person in accordance with B.S.
7967-4.
1.
After servicing, complete the relevant
Service Interval Record
section of the
Benchmark Commissioning Checklist
at the rear of this publication.
2.
During routine servicing, and after any maintenance or change of part of the combustion circuit, the following must be checked:-
The integrity of the complete flue system and the flue seals by checking air inlet sample to eliminate the possibility of recirculation. O2 ≥ 20.6% & CO
