An internal mechanism is therefore defined to activate the server automatically when the system
starts. This is based on a binary file provided by B-TEK, that must be uploaded in the public folder on
the device. This can be done using a standard FTP Client from a PC able to reach the device on the
network (this to be compliant with a remote assistance procedure).
Therefore the complete procedure to activate a VNC Server on the device is:
1.
retrieve the
vncpwd.bin
file (provided by B-TEK)
2.
using a standard FTP client, copy the
vncpwd.bin
file in the root folder
3.
restart the device (switch off and on)
When the system starts, the Start application checks if this file is present in the public folder. If it is
so, the standard loading is stopped and the window to digit the menu password is shown (the same
situation that is reached clicking on the main form during the 5 seconds interval). Moreover, the VNC
Server is run and can receive connection from a remote client
2
.
After that, the bin file is automatically deleted from the device. This is to avoid the start of the VNC
Server also at the next start up. Therefore, to run again the server after a device reboot, the file has
to be copied once more on the device.
The software used on the Pc for activate the VNC connection is 'UltraVNC Viewer'. The software is
available on the internet for free.
A password is required to connect a client to the VNC Server. This password is linked to the binary
file used to start the server and can be required together with the file.

Appendix A: The Available Memory Devices
Some procedures described in the previous chapter use files to store/retrieve the required data.
These files must be available on a memory device that is visible and usable by the Start application.
At the moment, two different types of memory can be used inside the system:
•
The internal Memory
•
An external USB Flash Drive
Obviously, these memories can be used in both directions:
•
as a
source
to retrieve data from outside to inside
•
In this case, the required files must be stored on the selected memory using a PC. Then this
memory must be connected to the Skynet device (obviously, this second step is not required
for the internal one).
•
as a
destination
to store data from inside to outside
