Administrator Guide – AzaCall200 VOIP Multi-Protocol Gateway
5.5.3. Device
Mode
The VOIP gateway device has two operational modes; one is Bridge mode (default setting),
which acts as a transparent bridge to pass traffic between the gateway device and an end-user
device. The other mode is Gateway mode, which makes the gateway device act like an NAT
device.
By supporting Gateway Mode and the Network Address Translation (NAT/NAPT) functionality,
our gateway device can save the user from having to acquire an NAT device, and allow several
users to be connected to the Internet simultaneously with only one public IP address if an
additional hub device is used. By taking advantage of the NAT function, a group of users can use
a private IP address in a LAN environment. The gateway device then converts the private
address to the ISP-furnished public address when the users want to access the Internet.
Refer to the Device Mode Configurations menu below; if the
Device Mode
is
Gateway
, NAPT
is enabled. On the other hand, if it’s
Bridge
, NAPT is disabled.
