Connect the FHDF cartridge
1. Look at the label on the back of the set to make sure that your set is an Avaya 3904
Release 3 Digital Deskphone. For Release 3, the label shows NTMN34GA. If the
set is not a Release 3 vintage, the FDHF cartridge is not compatible. Contact your
network administrator for more information.
2. Insert the FDHF cartridge into the ACM. The latch must be at the top.
3. Plug the wall transformer into an electrical outlet (use only the transformer designed
for your ACM accessory). The following list shows the transformers Avaya approves
for use with the FDHF 110V wall transformer (NTMN80AA) cartridge.
4. Disconnect the telephone line cord from the telephone wall jack. This is similar to
the ATA (see Figure 2 on page 6).
5. Connect the Adapter plug, attached to your transformer, to the telephone wall jack.
6. Connect the telephone line cord to the wall transformer adapter jack.
7. Verify that the FDHF cartridge is working properly. The cartridge is operating
properly when:
• the red LED on the cartridge is flashing, and
• the volume bar displays 18 segments during handsfree volume adjustment.
Half-duplex mode displays only 12 segments.
Operating parameters
The Avaya 3904 set attenuates the receive audio level when in FDHF mode while both you
and the other party are conversing; therefore, you can notice fluctuations in the receive volume
during a FDHF call.
During a call, you can remove or insert the FDHF cartridge into the ACM without interrupting
the established call. If you remove the FDHF cartridge, the set returns to half-duplex operation.
Status light indicator
A red LED status light on the FDHF cartridge indicates the status of the cartridge as follows:
• Flashing red - the cartridge is operating normally.
• Solid red - the cartridge is not operating normally. Contact your network administrator.
• Red light off - there is no power going to the cartridge or the cartridge is not operating
correctly. Check the power connection to the cartridge. If the condition continues, contact
your network administrator.
