6.3.2
Starting diesel engine
1. Activate parking brake.
2. Shift to idle.
3. Turn ignition key to ON position.
4. Wait until the preglow icon goes out on the dashboard.
5. Press starter button (do no accelerate while doing this).
6. If the engine does not start: move ignition key to OFF position and repeat starting
process.
7. Let the engine warm up.

Switching engine off
1. Turn ignition key to OFF position.

Braking
1. Press foot brake pedal downwards to activate the front wheel and rear wheel
brakes.
2. If the tyres lock: release brake briefly and brake again (intermittent braking).
NOTE
At temperatures below -10 °C, switch ignition off and switch on again after-
wards, to preglow the glow plug once more. This facilitates starting at low
temperatures.
WARNING
Excessive braking at high speeds leads to overheating of the brake fluid and
premature wear of the brake pads. Thus, the brakes may fail unexpectedly.
ATTENTION
Do not drive with activated brake. Even with light pressure on the foot brake
pedal or the brake lever, the brake pads will rub, and the brake disc and the
brake fluid may overheat.
