Bypass Switch TAP/Aggregator User Manual
Chapter 4 Install and configure the unit
W
EB
XR interface
This section describes how the Bypass TAP is supported using W
EB
XR (refer to the
W
EB
XR User
Manual
for details on all supported functions within W
EB
XR).
Ports screen
The Bypass TAP consists of five segments of ports on the front panel that can be used for
bypass applications. Each segment contains two Network ports and two Appliance ports.
There are an additional four I
NTELLA
F
LEX
XR ports on the right side of the blade that can be
used as additional Appliance ports.
The Network ports (top row) of N1 and N2 for each segment are displayed in a slightly darker
shade in the W
EB
XR Ports view. This darker shade denotes that these ports are different from
the Appliance ports (bottom row) of A1 and A2 in each segment.
The Network ports receive network traffic from the network and return the traffic back to the
network. The Appliance ports are typically connected to network tools.
Heartbeat packets can be inserted into the data stream prior to the data leaving the Appliance
ports. When the network traffic returns from the Appliance ports, the heartbeat packets are
removed before passing the traffic out of the Network ports.
Port screen icons
The following table describes the
port icons that may be displayed on Network or Appliance
ports in the Ports screen and on the Port Properties window. These icons are only displayed
when the ports are paired.

Name
Description
Network ports –
Bypass Mode
When a pair of Network ports are in Bypass mode
(default), a horizontal dual-ended arrow icon displays
across the Network ports.
The blade does not have information about the ports in
this mode so the status LEDs display in magenta.
Network Ports –
Monitor Mode
When a pair of Network ports are in Monitor (Normal)
mode, a vertical dual-ended arrow icon displays in the
middle of each port.
The status LEDs display green and the port rate is
listed within the LED.
Appliance Ports
When power is first applied, or when the user manually
sets the port to Bypass mode, a gray heartbeat icon is
displayed in the center of each port.
