Maintaining the Instrument
Battery Care
Incorrect care can reduce the life of the batteries. Below are some guidelines to prevent damage to
the batteries.
•
Do not leave the data cable installed as the data cable has an internal short which
activates a line in the instrument to enable communication.
•
Do not leave the red shorting plug installed.
•
Before storing the instrument for several months charge the battery to between 7.3 to 7.7
volts (40 to 70% capacity). The battery will self discharge at a rate of 2% per month so
extended storage durations can require recharging to protect the battery from fully
depleting.
Charging the Lithium-Ion Batteries
•
Ensure the instrument is dry.
•
Plug the data cable into the instrument.
•
Plug the charger into the data cable.
•
Plug the charger into a 120 or 240 volt AC outlet and allow the instrument to charge until
the red charging light on the charger turns green. A full charge requires approximately 5
hours, however, the battery will reach 80% capacity within 2 hours.
The charger must be connected to the battery before plugging the charger into the AC
outlet for proper operation of the charger and charging light.
Warning: Do not operate the instrument while charging the Lithium-Ion batteries.
