1.8 Input Wiring (continued)

1.8.3 Input 3

Input 3 is not available for use when using the Distributed Clock functionality to syn-
chronize the SMD34K to the EtherCAT SYNC0 signal. In these cases, the input must be
left disconnected. When using the CNPL-2M or CNPL-5M cable, the wires must be
electrically isolated.

Input 3 is a differential input that can be wired to sinking or sourcing sen-
sors without requiring a pull up or pull down resistor. It accepts 3.5 to 27
Vdc without the need for an external current limiting resistor. If you use a
48 Vdc sensor, a 5 kilohm resistor is required. This 5 kilohm resistor must
be wired in series with the input pin is required. Figure T1.10 below shows
how to wire a discrete DC sourcing and sinking sensor to input 3 of the
SMD34K. Colors in parentheses are the appropriate wire color for the
CNPL-2M and CNPL-5M cables.

1.9 Network Connectors

Figure T1.11 shows the Ethernet connector pinout when viewed from the back of the SMD34K. The Ethernet
ports on the units are both 100Base-TX and are auto MDI-X capable. This means that a standard cable can be
used when connecting the SMD34K to any device, including a personal computer.

The connector is a standard female four pin D-coded M12 connector that is rated to IP67 when the mate is
properly attached.

The two connectors are labeled “IN” and “OUT”. The IN port must be connected to the upstream devices in
the EtherCAT network. The OUT port is for downstream devices.
