9.4 Communications Protocol

In RS-232C communications with the marker, 

data basically consists of the elements 

shown right:

Transmission control code

The transmission control codes are as follows:

Checksum

Checksums are codes calculated from the transmitted data to confirm that all data is received 

correctly.

All data, from STX to the command or response segment to ETX, is totaled at the binary level and a 

checksum value calculated.

This result is converted into an ASCII string (a 2-byte hexadecimal number), which is added to the 

transmission as the checksum.
