4 Operation
Read the instructions carefully and pay special attention to the warnings!
4.1
Important check and monitoring during operation
Continuous monitoring
Shaft seal
-
DMS (double mechanical shaft seal)
The flow rate, temperature and pressure of the buffer/barrier fluid must be within the specifications given in chapter 4.2
Operating parameters. If this cannot be ensured in any other way, these values should be continuously monitored.

SSS (single shaft seal)
Continuous flow through the pump and media temperature within the limits stated in the specifications given in the
operation parameters in chapter 4.2 Operating parameters must be ensured. If this cannot be ensured in any other
way, a combination of flow rate and temperature should be monitored.
Pump head

Measures must be taken to prevent the pump from operating outside the limits specified in the operation parameters in
chapter 4.2 Operating parameters. If this cannot be ensured in any other way, a combination of flow rate, temperature,
pressure or motor load should be monitored.
Motor

In order to prevent the motor from overheating, continuous monitoring is recommended.
Daily checks

Shaft seal (SSS and DMS)
If leakage from the shaft seal can lead to dangerous situations, daily inspections are recommended in both gas and
dust applications.
Weekly checks
-
Pump unit
If the pump unit operates in dust filled atmospheres, weekly inspections must ensure that the pump can operate
freely and the necessary cooling conditions are present.
Other checks
-
Motor
The bearing life is heavily dependent on the operating condition of the pump i.e. pressure, ambient temperature,
motor load and pressure variations. In order to prevent motor bearing failure, the condition of the bearings must be
monitored regularly. If the condition of the bearings cannot be safely monitored in any other way, the condition should
be determined by means of vibration analysis (shock pulse measurements). It is recommended that the condition of
the bearings is checked every 2000 hours of operation.
All equipment and systems used for checks and monitoring must be ATEX compliant and comply with EN 13463-6
2005 or equipment-relevant standards.
