12.13 Controller Self-Test Procedure
12.13.1 By Shorting Test Jumper J1
The purpose of the Self Test mode is to provide an easy solution to test all the input and output
circuits and devices of the control board or the unit assembly. In previous version of software
the Self Test mode can be initiated by using the jumper J1 only. But starting from 10V6, the Self
Test mode can also be initiated by using a remote control (e.g. RC2) regardless the setting of
the jumper J1.
After the ELCON unit has entered Self Test Mode, a series of tests (divided into five groups) are
carried out in the following order:
Jumper Test
LED/Relay Walk Test and Zero-crossing Timing Test
IR Reception Test and Button Switch Test
Analogue Voltage Test and External Input Test
Watchdog Reset Timing Test and EEPROM Read/Write Test
At the end of each group of tests, the ELCON unit will stop and wait for the user input before
starting the group of tests. The details are provided in the next sections.
12.13.2. Initiate the Self-Test Mode by using the jumper J1
(i) Select the correct A/C model under test by setting the jumpers J8, J3, J4 and J5 (if available),
and select the correct group by settingthe jumpers J2 and J6.
(ii) Connect J1 jumper to select Test Mode.
(iii) H/W reset the CPU or Power Up the system by connecting the AC power.
(iv) At the end of each group of test, the user can press the Mode Button or the Temp [-] Button
once to start the next group of tests.
(v) To exit the Self-Test Mode, the Jumper J1 is removed. And the unit will reset itself and go
back to normal operation mode automatically.
12.13.3 Initiate the Self-Test Mode by using a R/C
(i) Make sure that the correct A/C model has been selected by setting the jumpers J8, J3, J4
and J5 (if available), and the correct group has been selected by setting the jumpers J2 and
J6. Jumper J1 must be disconnected.
(ii) Turn on the AC power to the unit and make sure that the unit is in operating mode.
(iii) Use a R/C to send the 1st setting to the ELCON unit Heat/Fan Mode, High IFAN, SPT=16
o
c,
no IFEEL, Sleep or any timer settings
(iv) Use a R/C to send the 2nd setting to the ELCON unit Cool Mode, Low IFAN, SPT=any, no
IFEEL, Sleep or any timer settings.
(v) After the ELCON unit has received the two setting in the correct order, Test Mode will be
started immediately. At the end of each group of test, the user can use either the Power
Button on the R/C or the Mode Button on the ELCON unit to start the next group of tests.
(vi) Since the jumper J1 is ignored during this special R/C initiated Test Mode, two other ways of
exiting the Test Mode are provided. The user can change the unit setting from “Cool Mode,
Low Fan” to “Cool Mode, Med FAN”, this will terminate the Test Mode immediately. Or, the
user can just leave the ELCON unit alone. When the ELCON unit does not receive any
new command from the user for 60 sec, it will reset itself and go back to normal mode
automatically.
Note:
In (iii) and (iv), the 2nd setting must follow directly after the 1st setting. The timing is not
important. For example, sending the 2nd setting 1 hour after the 1st setting is still acceptable.
But if the two settings is separated by any other settings, such as Fan Mode or Dry Mode, the
Test Mode will not be started.
