Commonly-Used Terms
Accelerator keys
Keystrokes which allow you to perform window operations (such as minimiz-
ing, moving, resizing and closing windows) without having to point to the op-
eration in the Window Button Menu.
ADE SYSTEM CONTROLLER (CONTROL STATUS APPLICATION)
This is an ADE application which controls starting and stopping of the STAN-
DARD USER INTERFACE in addition to configuring aspects of the entire sys-
tem. It must always be open and running in order to run the STANDARD
USER INTERFACE.
Advanced System Controller (ASC) 2000
The ASC 2000 is the name of a computer system which operates ADE wafer
characterization systems. It consists of a personal computer with a SCO-
UNIX operating system and a rtVAX 300 board that resides in the PC chassis.
Booting
Booting occurs when the ASC 2000 is first powered on. The computer's low-
level software is loaded first, followed by the SCO-UNIX operating system.
When the login screen appears, the system has completed booting and is
ready to operate.
Clicking
A "click" occurs when you depress the leftmost trackball button (Button #1)
one time. This is how icons and windows are selected in the desktop workspace.
Clicking the rightmost trackball button (Button #3) can produce a pop-up menu
in some applications.
DECNET
DECNET is an optional networking software which may be purchased with
your system. It makes use of Ethernet protocol to enable communications.
Disk Image Back-up
One or two SCSI tapes (depending on ASC 2000 version) containing the SCO-
UNIX operating system and ADE wafer characterization software. The back-
up should be used to restore the system after a hard disk failure.
Double-clicking
A "double-click" occurs when you depress the leftmost trackball button (Button
#1) two times rapidly. This opens an application's icon in the desktop
workspace.
