10.7 Net Boot ROM
Network boot functionality is accomplished by incorporating the boot ROM image for the
appropriate network operating system in the BIOS memory of the NPC-486. The
following boot ROM images are available:
•
General purpose Boot ROM (based on IBM Remote Program Load protocol)
for Novell, Microsoft, or IBM operating systems.
•
BOOTP Boot ROM for TCP/IP networks
The general purpose Boot ROM supports any combination of I/O address, IRQ, and
DMA selections. The BOOTP Boot ROM supports only certain combinations:

BOOTP Allowed Configurations
Most net boot ROM images are 16K bytes in size. In the NPC-486E, the image is
typically located within the BIOS memory device and at address CC000h. The Boot
ROM images are distributed with the network drivers and can be obtained from the
factory. They can be loaded into the NPC-486E’s flash based BIOS in circuit using the
Flash
Fusion
BIOS update utility.
The Boot ROM image may be located within a memory device loaded in the Socket Solid
State Disk if desired. The image can be programmed into a compatible part, at offset
0000H, and the part can be loaded into the SSD socket.
