Option 2: Logging in with a laptop and network cable
Warning
This option is supported for 3VR systems with both a primary and secondary Ethernet port (P-Series
and S-Series NVR). It is not recommended for S-Series, E-Series, or M-Series SmartRecorders, which
have only one active Ethernet port.
Disable all laptop wireless network adapters by 1.
launching the
Network Connections
dialog from
the Windows control panel. Right-click on your
Wireless Network Connection and select
Disable .
Verify that the laptop is set to DHCP: Double-click 2.
Local Area Connection. In the resulting window,
click the
Properties
button. In the
Local Area
Connection Properties
window, select Internet
Protocol TCP/IP and click Properties . Make sure that


Disable any Windows or third-party firewalls and all virus, adware, or spyware detection software running on 3.

Connect an Ethernet cable from the laptop Ethernet port to the secondary port on the 3VR system. On a 4.
P-Series SmartRecorder, the right-hand port is secondary. On an S-Series NVR system, the secondary port is
located in the PCI slot.
Power on the 3VR and wait for about a minute for the connection to be created. 5.
When addresses have been assigned, the Local Area Connection icon in the laptop system tray will display
a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, reading
Limited/No Connectivity
. This is expected, and
indicates the connection process is complete. Note that it can take up to two minutes for the connection to
be established.
Launch 3VR SystemManager. 6.
