Before you configure your system, become familiar with the physical port
numbering scheme that exists on individual switching modules and also
between the switch fabric module and all other switching modules.
Understanding the port numbering scheme enables you to:

■

Manage your bridge ports (especially if you use trunking), as described
in the

Switch 4007 Implementation Guide

.

■

Accurately define your virtual LANs (VLANs), as described in the

Switch 4007 Implementation Guide.

This chapter outlines Ethernet commands and provides key information
about how to configure Ethernet ports on a switching module.
