Chapter 7 External Cable Installation
Different types of optical interfaces use different models of optical connectors. The end of
the fiber needs to match corresponding connector.
ZXR10 ZSR provides the following three models of optical interfaces:
l
SC interface: a fiber with two square interfaces for transmission and reception and
using SC connectors.
l
LC interface: a fiber with two square interfaces for transmission and reception and
using LC connector, whose size is smaller than that of SC interface.
l
MT-RJ interface: a fiber with one square interface for transmission and reception and
using MT-RJ connector. There is MT-RJ interface on 8-port POS3 interface card.
ZXR10 ZSR provides swappable GBIC module.
It is mainly used on 2-port gigabit
Ethernet interface card, using SC interface. When installing GBIC module, push it into
position horizontally according to idle slot ID on the module and interface card. Force
plugging/unplugging is forbidden.
Two types of fibers are available: single-mode fiber and multi-mode fiber. User can
configure the fiber according to the actual application. Generally, multi-mode fiber is
used in short-distance transmission while single-mode fiber is used in long-distance
transmission.
As for fiber out of the cabinet, make sure to protect the fiber against any damages with
plastic corrugated sleeve. The fiber within the protect sleeve must not be wound up and
the corners must be radian. The labels at two ends of the fiber must be clear. The meaning
of the label must correctly reflect corresponding serial numbers and relationship between
cabinets and between rows.
