OLT

is connected to the

ONU

in point-to-point mode, and

each ONU is connected to the OLT through a dedicated optical link
without an optical branching device between them, it is called star
networking.

Figure 21

shows the star networking mode. There is no attenua-

tion due to the optical branching device. Therefore, the transmis-
sion distance is larger than the point-to-multipoint mode.
